Fans of vinyl and true school hip hop should be happy tonight in Copacabana. Vinyl United is bringing those two great tastes that taste great together to Fosfobox, featuring carioca hiphop dj legends Pachu, Saci, Lulinha, Saddam and special guest Bruno Vinelli.
In the upstairs Fosfobar, it's all about the Botafogo Social Club as Mike Frugaletti and I go back to back all night playing whatever we feel like. I'm still not quite sure what that will be but I do know it will be FUNKY!
Come out tonight and get the weekend started early!

Tomorrow night at Mekong in Leblon, The Rio Times presents an event the first of it's kind in Rio de Janeiro, Rio DJ MixUp. It will be an opportunity for all those in the nightlife community to come together, share a drink and make some connections. I'll be representing Botafogo Social Club and, along with Mary Byker, we'll be playing the tunes for the evening. Things get started at 7PM so come right down after work! There's no charge to hang out and Mekong will be running drink specials all night!

I couldn't be more hyped for tomorrow nights gig at the Ya'Ya High-Fi party going down at Studio RJ! Not only does April 2 mark the five year anniversary of me first coming to Rio, it will also be my birthday at midnight! On top of all that, I get to play with my Botafogo Social Club soul brother, Dan Markham aka DJ Dementia. The last time we shared the decks was last summer in London at the Notting Hill Arts Club and I think we're both equally looking forward to the reunion. The music will funky, funky, funky and the medium will be a some dusty stacks of hand-selected 45"s that I've brought from the States for the occasion and Mr. Markham has hauled all the way from the UK just for the night! All this, of course, is leading up to our massive four year BSC anniversary party going down April 13 at Alto Vidigal. The next couple of weeks here in Rio are looking to be even hotter than usual!
For the still uninitiated, Ya'Ya High-Fi is the brain-child of DJ Marcelinho da Lua, a rare vinyl don and one of the prime movers and shakers of Brazil's early drum & bass scene (as evidenced by this clip from 2003). The night is one of the very few in Rio purely dedicated to the cult of vinyl and the music selection is top shelf! Along with Dalua, my man Montano lays down the visual component to the night, along with some grooves of his own.
Functioning primarily as a live jazz venue, the sound system in Studio RJ and clean and it bumps! So forget the fact that it's Tuesday night, dust off your boogie shoes and come have a drink with me and Dementia as we throw down the heat!

Tonight marks the triumphant return of the infamous RUN VDG party to top of Vidigal!
Carnaval is in full swing here in Rio de Janeiro, the streets are packed with costumed revelers and the sun is blazing! But as the sun sets, giving way to the night, the party will continue and the rhythms will shift from the samba machinhas to beats of house and disco!
I'll be kicking things off with some laid back tropical vibes until 1 AM. After that, I'll be handing over the reins to my Botafogo Social Club, bruvah from another mother, Mike Frugaletti. Mahara Belgrano will finish off the night, direct from Fishbone in Buzios. Check out some of her styles below and come join us later up on the hill!
RSVP here for RUN VDG for discounted admission!
I've got some great gigs coming up, if you happen to be in Rio de Janeiro!
This Wednesday, I'll be joining my good friend (and new Pop Will Eat Itself frontman), Mary Byker, at Mekong in Leblon. We'll be laying down the smooth grooves for those enjoying the restaurant/bar's special Songkran menu in honor of the Thai new year. Come early to get a table!
Thursday will be a real treat for me. I'm honored to be the opening act for Les Fines Polettes at Teatro Odisséia in Lapa. If you are unfamiliar with these guys, they are a New Orleans-style brass band from Paris, France! They are great live, performing with an energy that is infectious! Expect to hear me lay down some serious NoLa funk for this set. Check out a little clip of L.F.P. doing there thing below.
Then on May 5th it's the long awaited 2 year anniversary of our Botafogo Social Club party! We'll be getting down once again high atop of Vidigal at the place with the best of view of Rio that you are ever likely to find, Casa Alto Vidigal. If you were there for our Carnaval party, you know what I mean! I'll be joined on the decks by our BSC residents Mike Frugaletti, Jan Roldanus and Doug Gray. RSVP here for discounted admission.
Hope to see you at one or all three of these upcoming shows!
Thanks to everyone that came out and boogied with the BSC to the sounds of the one and only, Gilles Peterson! After playing the night before for HRH Prince Harry and invited guests on top of Sugar Loaf Mountain, including Sao Jorge and Ed Motta, Mr. Peterson did not disappoint the Botafogo Social Club dance floor. Dropping tune after tune, with short interludes on the mic (this one going out by request, dedicated to those who know!), he left us sweaty and breathless. So many of my personal faves were played, including an unknown to me mix of 'Les Fleur' by Minnie Riperton, my mind is still reeling! And when he was done, I'd like to think me and the rest of the BSC crew (Mike Frugaletti, Jan Roldanus and Doug Gray) more than held our own against the reigning champ of funky grooves. It was a night I will never forget and I thank all of you that came out from the bottom of my groove-filled heart!
Oh my god, I'm so excited for this Saturday! As we do every year, the Botofogo Social Club is doing it up big for carnaval, this time we'll be at the awesome Casa Alto Vidigal, high on top of the hill. The views are breathtaking and you know the beats will be top shelf! Along with BSC residents Doug Gray, Mike Frugaletti, Jan Roldanus, Dementia and myself; we will be joined on the decks but the lovely Vivi Seixas! The party starts to roll at 6pm so come early for the sunset and a bit of bbq action. We'll keep the grooves pumping until the sun comes up the next day so get some rest while you still can.
Confirm your presence on facebook and get R$10 off admission!
How to arrive: take a van to the entrance to Vidigal on Avenida Niemeyer and walk up to the moto taxi stand to the left. Take a moto taxi to Casa Alto Vidigal in the Arvrão area located on top of the hill.
