"When I finally switched to digital after 17 years of djing with only vinyl, I did so begrudgingly. Moving to Rio de Janeiro from San Francisco made it impossibly to bring all my vinyl with me, not to mention the fact that turntables are pretty scarce down in Brazil. I've since grown to embrace the format. One thing I really love is having access to my entire music library for every gig I play. Because of this, I'm often able to pick up extra gigs in my travels playing genres that I love but don't usually get asked to play. The dj sets below are some examples of these and are provided for your listening pleasure."
I had the pleasure to open for Rio's legendary Orquestra Voadora at the
equally legendary Circo Voador club in Lapa. In reverance for Orqustra's brass band roots, the set is heavy on New Orleans funk but also features some hip hop, afro beat, soul and latin grooves.
Our Love Is Deep is a deep house mix I recorded in Bristol, UK
with my old friend, Nicole Maison. We were playing records from
early to mid 90's that had been boxed up for years after Nicole
moved back to the UK form San Francisco.
This mix tape was produced as a gift to our loyal supporters in celebration of the one year anniversary of our party in Rio de janeiro, Botafogo Social Club, featuring dj Dementia on the cuts.
This mix, recorded live in Amsterdam, is a spaced out set of
modern disco made under the influence of the local specialty.
When I arrived early for my gig in Sweden, I found a lovely outdoor
patio equipped with a soundsystem. Inspired by the endless summer
sun, I asked if they would mind if I played a set of 60's and 70's
Brazilian samba. They didn't mind at all.
Epic soul, heavy funk, smoking soul jazz, latin heat, some afrobeat... it's all in here, plus a bit more, in this set recorded live at Teatro Odesseia in Lapa, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Listen all the way through and you will be rewarded with some seriously heavy shit!
When I played in Amsterdam on my European tour, I met
a lot of great people that offered me the chance to play a few
extra gigs beyond the ones that I was initially booked to play.
Roof Top Dub is one of these sets.
Sweden is a beautiful country filled with beautiful people and, if you ever get the chance to go, I highly recommend it! This eclectic set of funk, soul, disco and house was recorded live at Club Orange in Uppsala.
Recorded in my bedroom one Sunday morning back in San Francisco.
Nothing fancy, just a cup of tea, a spliff and some good tunes.
Please Advise is a mix series put together by The Hydrilla,
a crew of designers and djs based out of San Francisco.
I was honored to contribute an eclectic mix for them recorded
live in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
