Lost In Rio
The design pimps, art curators and all around culture hustlers over at San Francisco's Hydrilla crew were cool enough to ask me to contribute to there ongoing dj series, Please Advise, and I was more than happy to oblige. The concept is simple; pick top djs in their genre and record them playing lives sets showcasing their sounds. In other words, advise the people to what it is. Past sets worth checking out include Jah Yzer & Irie Dole laying down their blend of dance hall and hi hop live from Showdown SF.

My set was recorded live in Rio de Janeiro just before I left for the European tour. The mix is well eclectic, going from house and disco to a bit of funk and beyond, acknowledging the sample in the Romanowski track that's featured, "if you specialize in one thing, you can't really call yourself an all out king." Not that I would ever call myself an all out king, of course, but it's good to have aspirations ;)    [stream and download here]

Before leaving London last week, I decided at the last minute to visit my dear friend and old partner in 2 Block Radius  (along with my other dear friend, Tom Cloutman), Nicole Maison. We ended up setting up his decks and unpacking boxes of records that had not been played since he lived in San Francisco many years ago. These boxes were like a deep house time capsule, containing classic pieces of wax from the early to mid 90's. Nick began selecting the cuts and I began to play them, having not played vinyl in over three years. Seeing him again and playing these tunes both seemed like the last time was only yesterday. This is the result. Our love is deep.
